How to Display Pokémon Cards on Your iPhone (MagSafe Guide) | TrainerCase Blog

MagSafe trading card display on iPhone with Pokémon card

You've got a card sitting in a binder right now that you haven't looked at in months.

Maybe longer.

It's your favourite pull. The one you were genuinely pumped about. And it's just... sitting there. Between two other cards. In a binder. On a shelf.

What if you could carry it with you every day? On the back of your phone, where you actually see it?

That's what a MagSafe card display does. And if you've never heard of one, this guide covers everything you need to know.

What is a MagSafe card display?

It's a clear polycarbonate case that holds one trading card on the back of your iPhone.

It uses MagSafe (the magnet system built into every iPhone from the 12 onwards) to snap onto your phone. No adhesive. No stickers. No removing your phone case every time you want to swap.

Sleeve your card. Slide it into the display. Snap it onto your phone. Done.

The magnets inside are N52 grade. That's the strongest commercially available magnet you can get. So when people ask "will it fall off?" the answer is: not a chance. This thing holds on tight.

Think of it like a tiny display case for one card. Except instead of sitting on a shelf where nobody sees it, it's on the back of the thing you carry everywhere.

How to set it up

The display is two pieces that slide together. That's it. Four steps and you're done.

Step 1: Slide the two halves of the display apart to open it.

Step 2: Put your card in a perfect fit sleeve, then slide it into the display. (We include a few sleeves with every order. We'd always recommend sleeving your card first. It's an extra layer of protection and it takes two seconds.)

Step 3: Slide the display closed.

Step 4: Snap it onto the back of your iPhone. The MagSafe magnets grab on and hold it in place.

That's it. You're done.

Swapping cards is just as fast. Pull the display off your phone. Slide it open. Switch the card. Slide it closed. Snap it back on.

If you've got a 3-pack, it's even quicker. Each display already has a card loaded. Just pull one off and snap a different one on. Different card for different moods. Different days. Whatever you feel like.

What cards fit (and what doesn't)

Standard TCG cards. That's 63mm x 88mm. Which covers:

  • Pokémon cards
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! cards
  • Magic: The Gathering cards
  • One Piece cards
  • Most sports cards

We always recommend putting your card in a perfect fit sleeve before sliding it into the display. It's a small thing that makes a big difference for protecting your card.

What doesn't fit: toploaders, graded slabs, and penny sleeves.

Toploaders and slabs are too thick. And penny sleeves? They're actually too big. Here's why.

We designed the display to have the smallest possible footprint so it fits on every iPhone, including smaller ones like the iPhone 13 and iPhone 16. That's a tight space. Regular penny sleeves make the card too wide, and they get caught in the sliding mechanism when you try to close the display. Perfect fit sleeves were built for exactly this. They hug the card tightly, add protection, and fit the display perfectly.

If your card is in a graded slab, this isn't designed for it. But for a sleeved card that you actually want to see and enjoy every day? That's exactly what this is built for.

"But won't it damage my card?"

This is the number one question we get. Fair enough. You care about your cards. You should.

Here's the honest answer.

Your card sits inside a perfect fit sleeve, inside a polycarbonate display. Two layers of protection. It's fully enclosed. It's not rubbing against your jeans or getting rained on.

Is it a fireproof vault? No. It's not pretending to be one.

If your card is worth more than your phone, maybe keep it in the safe. Seriously. A PSA 10 first edition Charizard doesn't belong on the back of your iPhone and we'd be the first to tell you that.

But that card you pulled from a pack last month? The one that made you do that little fist pump? The one that's currently sandwiched between 400 other cards in a binder?

Get it out. Put it somewhere you'll actually see it.

That's what this is for. The cards you love, not the cards you're locking away.

Which phones work with it?

Every iPhone from the 12 onwards. That means:

  • iPhone 12 (all models)
  • iPhone 13 (all models)
  • iPhone 14 (all models)
  • iPhone 15 (all models)
  • iPhone 16 (all models)
  • iPhone 17 (all models)

Mini, regular, Plus, Pro, Pro Max. All of them. If your iPhone has MagSafe built in, it works. You can use it with any MagSafe-compatible phone case too. You don't need to go caseless.

What about non-iPhones?

It's possible. The display needs a flat area that's at least 72mm wide by 96mm tall, and MagSafe magnets to hold it in place.

If your phone doesn't have MagSafe built in, you can grab a MagSafe sticker (a thin magnetic ring that sticks to the back of your case) and that'll give you the magnetic connection you need.

The catch is camera placement. Some phones have camera modules that sit too low on the back and get in the way. The Samsung S26 Ultra and S26, for example, don't work because the camera section comes too close to where the display sits and it can't sit flush. Other Samsung MagSafe cases have the same issue.

If your phone case has a flat back without a camera bump in that area, there's a good chance the display will work. It might cover part of the camera depending on the layout, but it'll sit flat.

For now, iPhones are the safest bet. But we're working on expanding compatibility.

Why collectors are putting cards on their phones

Here's the thing nobody talks about with card collecting.

You spend hours hunting for cards. You get excited about pulls. You organise them, sleeve them, put them in a binder. And then... they sit there.

Nobody sees them except you. And honestly? You barely see them either. When was the last time you actually opened that binder and looked through it?

A MagSafe display changes that. Your favourite card goes from hidden to visible. Every single day.

And the best part is what happens when other people notice.

Your mate picks up your phone and goes "wait, is that a Charizard?" Your coworker asks about it before lunch. Someone at the cafe does a double-take.

That's the real value. It's not just a display. It's a conversation starter. It's a way to show the world what you're into without saying a word.

Some people change their card every day. Some keep the same one on for months. There's no wrong way to do it. The point is that your card is out in the world instead of buried in a binder.

Quick FAQ

Does it work with a phone case?

Yes. Any MagSafe-compatible case. You don't need to go caseless.

Will it fall off?

N52 magnets. Strongest grade available. It's not going anywhere. We've had customers throw their phones across the room to test it. (We don't recommend that. But it held.)

Does it add a lot of bulk?

Barely. It's slim. You'll notice it's there, but it doesn't turn your phone into a brick.

Can I use it with a non-iPhone?

Possibly. You'll need a flat area on the back of your phone (72mm x 96mm) and a MagSafe sticker or MagSafe-compatible case. Some Samsung models don't work because the camera module sits too low. iPhones 12 and up are the easiest and most reliable option.

How often can I swap cards?

As often as you want. Every day if that's your vibe. The magnets don't wear out.

Do I need to buy sleeves separately?

We include a few perfect fit sleeves with every display. If you want more, we sell a 100-pack. We'd always recommend sleeving your card before putting it in the display. It's an extra layer of protection and it keeps the card fitting perfectly in the mechanism.

Ready to get your card out of the binder?

One display. One card. On your phone every day.

If you already know you'll want to swap between cards, the 3-pack gives you three displays so you can rotate whenever you feel like it.
